Congratulations
,
great work on finishing
your first Case Study!
Thank you!
With your help, the students were able to show the superintendent what they were eating in school versus what they should be eating in school. The presentation blew his hat off!
The students explained to Superintendent Franklin that a healthy meal is made up of a variety of great nutrients (carbs, fat, protein, vitamins and minerals), but is low in things that can be harmful in large amounts such as salt, sugar, and refined carbs. The students even used “traffic light eating” to explain the different categories.
Our school was able to increase its budget to make a more nutrient-dense menu. We now offer vegetables and fruit twice a day, and have included things like oatmeal, veggie wraps, meatless Mondays, and much healthier drink options. While we still serve burgers once a month, it is served with healthier sides and toppings. Additionally, the school decided to replace the vending machine with a grab-and-go machine that includes sandwiches and snacks from leftover ingredients. The money from this machine goes back into our school’s food budget.
Great work!
Sincerely,
Mr. Garcia
